Weather Warms Up and So Does The Fishing In April
This is an excellent time of year to go fishing in the Keys. As the weather has warmed up, so has the fishing. Today, I guided a group aboard the Coolcast to fish both deep sea at the color change and in the harbor. My clients managed to catch several Sailfish offshore as well as a couple nice Tarpon in the harbor channels.
This whole week, we are expecting the winds to blow out of the east. This creates excellent conditions to fish for Sailfish, which are currently at their peak of activity off the Keys. Out at the color change, where the Gulf Stream has been flowing close to reef on the Atlantic side of Key West.
Later this month, be sure to book a charter to go fishing for Permit at the reef. When the moon becomes full, the Permit will inundate the reef while looking to spawn. Using green crabs for bait, our captains recommend using 20-pound test line on spinning reels.
Tight lines and trophy trips,
