Light Tackle Fishing In March

With the arrival of spring, the air and water temps of this region have begun to rise and the activity of game fish species has risen as well. Now is the time when anglers have a number of great options for fishing, including Tarpon fishing in the Harbor of Key West, light tackle fishing for Snapper, King Mackerel, and sharks at the reef, and deep sea angling near the color change. When the wind is blowing out of the south, our charter captains like to head north into the Gulf to follow the shrimp boats that attract some followers overnight - a swarm of hungry Blackfin Tuna waiting for the dump of bycatch in the morning.

Speaking of shrimp boat trash, the Tarpon are really hitting the cut bait in Key West Harbor. We've already led some successful Tarpon charters with trophy results. Our anglers have nabbed a score of these huge sport-fish with the largest tipping the scales at 125 pounds. Now that the weather has been favorable, all the conditions have come together for some excellent deep sea fishing to the south of the Florida Keys. The warm Gulf Stream currents are flowing near the reef, drawing Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, and Blackfin Tuna in close to depths of around 150 feet.
