Key West Fishing Reports

Over the weekend, our charter captains took advantage of the murky waters along the Atlantic reef to fish for sharks. We used chunks of Yellowtail Snapper, Bonita, and Amberjack as cut bait to draw a score of Blacktips to our anglers' lines. Bill Wallace, Captain of the Outcast, led his clients to hook sixteen of eighteen Blacktips.

This week started off beautifully. Perfect skies, bright sun, warm temperatures, and best of all, lots of activity out on the water. The week was especially successful for our offshore deep-water captains, who reported back catches of everything from Yellowtail Snapper to Blackfin Tuna.

Captain Bill of our charter vessel, the Outcast, reports having a nice day on the Atlantic side of Key West on Tuesday. In addition to pulling in six King Mackerels to the south of the Keys, his anglers also managed to hook a forty-pound Wahoo.

Lately we've seen some excellent winter conditions for fishing offshore in the Florida Keys. In addition to the north wind, which keeps the water calm south of Key West, where the large pelagic fish can be caught, we've seen the Gulf Stream waters shift unusually close to the Keys, bringing warm waters from the equator to within two miles of the reef.

Our own Captain Tony of the Coolwater led quite a successful fishing expedition today, travelling twenty-five miles west of Key West. Anchored off the edge of a reef, his clients pulled in plenty of Cero Mackerel, Yellowtail Snapper, and Bonita utilizing live bait and light tackle.
