Key West Fishing Reports

With the arrival of spring, the air and water temps of this region have begun to rise and the activity of game fish species has risen as well. Now is the time when anglers have a number of great options for fishing, including Tarpon fishing in the Harbor of Key West, light tackle fishing for Snapper, King Mackerel, and sharks at the reef, and offshore angling near the color change.

As a result of the spring warm-up, we've seen a spike in both light tackle and offshore fishing of late. Over the last week, we've seen some great results at the reef and off-shore aboard our charter vessel the Coolcast. Friday, we headed out to both the reef and the Gulf Stream.

We have been fortunate to see sunshine and rising temperatures this week in Key West Florida. The fishing should heat up with the temps. Our boats had four successful fishing charters to close out the work week. Capt.

I guided two successful fishing charters today (Tuesday) on the Coolcast. In the morning we fished off the reef, where each angler caught their limit of Yellowtail Snapper, averaging between 2 to 4 pounds. The increase in air temperature elevated the water temperature, resulting in a rise in fish activity.

The murky conditions around the reef south of Key West have been great for our charters lately, drawing a score of hungry sharks, including a ton of Blacktips and even the occasional Hammerhead. On our charter boat the Outcast, Captain Bill Wallace had one of his anglers hook a five hundred pound Mako.
