Key West Fishing Reports

Lately, the angling has been spectacular north of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico. A vast collection of wrecks spot the floor of Gulf, providing structure and habitat for an assortment of sport fish, including Sharks, Grouper, Snapper, Kingfish, and Cobia.

After some slow months off shore, we've seen the deep sea angling pick up. Captain Dan Smith recently piloted the Outcast into deeper waters of around 600 to 1,000 feet. Mahi Mahi has been found around floating oceanic debris.

We've been guiding plenty of successful light tackle charters south to fish the Atlantic reef for spawning Yellowtail and Mangrove Snapper. If you are looking to spend a half day of constant angling action while visiting Key West, we have the expedition for you.

As a result of the overblown media reports about the tropical storm, we saw very few charter bookings on Friday, even though the weather was beautiful. This is a fantastic time of year to go light tackle fishing while visiting Key West, Florida. There are ample spots to discover some fabulous angling, including in Key West Harbor, at the plentiful shipwreck sites throughout the region, in the abundant saltwater flats, and south of Key West at the reef.

The light tackle angling around Key West has remained extremely active in July. Although deep sea fishing has not yet picked up, there are ample inshore fishing opportunities to satisfy the most veteran anglers. The highlight of this season has been the Mangrove Snapper spawn.
