Key West Fishing Report - August, 2014
While July was a great month for fishing in Key West, August has surprised everyone with the plethora of fantastic hauls we've seen recently. It's clear that the fish have been biting better than ever as of late, which is compounded by all of the great weather we've been having. Our Key West fishing charter reported back each day with pictures of new and exciting catches from local and visiting anglers. No matter what type of fishing, whether deep sea, light tackle or flats fishing, each one of our charters provided unforgettable experiences for anglers all throughout the month of August.
Though we are well into the summer season, the temperatures have been steady in the mid to high 80's all throughout the month of August, which has helped to cultivate pristine fishing conditions. One of the primary fish that we've seen this month, displayed in the accompanying picture, is that of the Goliath Grouper. Though these fish can be caught in pretty much any type of weather condition, due to their general fearlessness at all times, it's much easier to hook them during sunny and calm weather. Despite the fact that Goliath Groupers can be found all along the East Coast, they tend to spend much of their time in the waters of Key West and the rest of the Florida Keys, though it is possible to find them swimming all the way down in the waters alongside the Brazilian coast.
While Grouper have been spotted and reeled in with some frequency, they aren't the only species of fish that has been nipping at the lures of our anglers. Those that have ventured out on the Coolwater, our Key West fishing charter that specializes in deep sea fishing, have been reporting back with amazing hauls of a variety of unique and beautiful fish, such as the Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, Spanish Mackerel and even Blue Fin Tuna. As for our light tackle fishing charters, Permit of all shapes and sizes have been showing up in great frequency during the month of August.
If all goes well, these advantageous fishing conditions will continue into September and beyond. Thankfully, all signs point towards this being the case, though possibly with a bit more rain. However, light rain can provide great fishing conditions as well, so fishing during this weather shouldn't necessarily be avoided. If you're thinking of visiting Key West for a fishing outing, there's a lot to enjoy at the moment. As August has displayed, many species of fish within these waters are more aggressive as of late and are biting at lures more readily, which looks as though it will continue. The captains on all of our charters are the very best at what they do and will be able to guide even the most inexperienced of anglers to a successful day out on the water. No matter what type of fish you're looking to target, now is the perfect time to join us here at Key West!
