Excellent Shark Fishing In April

Down here in the Florida Keys, the weather has been pleasant with the winds blowing from the east, creating idyllic offshore conditions. This is the peak time of year to hunt for Sailfish to the south of Key West at the color change. Every one of our charter boats that have ventured offshore to the south of the Keys has enjoyed success in snagging Sailfish. On Friday, Capt. Santelli guided anglers on the Outcast deep sea fishing to haul in several of these trophy billfish that measured more than eight feet long. Our captains have been baiting the hooks with live small Blue Runners and threadfin Herring. Ample Bonita and some Blackfin Tuna have also been biting at the color change. An angler on our charter boat, the Coolwater, also hooked an eighty-plus pound Amberjack under the guidance of Captain Wallace.

This is also an excellent season to fish for sharks in the saltwater flats near Key West. On Friday's charter aboard the Coolcast, my clients caught Black-tipped Reef Sharks, Bull Sharks, and Lemon sharks surpassing two-hundred and fifty pounds. I chummed the water with Bonita and Barracuda and baited the lines with filets.

Tight lines and trophy trips,

Capt. Chris Garcia
