Cobia and Billfish In April

The Sailfish run continues to provide ample opportunities for deep sea action to the south of Key West. Recently, a ton of Cobia has been swimming along the surface with the billfish. Bill Wallace, skipper of our charter vessel, the Outcast, guided a client to catch an impressive 72-lb. Cobia.

Our own Dan Smith guided a mixed charter today, first heading out to the Gulf Stream color change, then returning to Key West Harbor with the tide to fish for Tarpon. Using live Herring, the party on the Coolcast reeled in Sailfish, Dolphin Fish, Cobia, and King Mackerels offshore before heading inshore to nail two Tarpon weighing up to 120 lbs. on cut bait.

Sharks have been especially active inshore lately; Tony Miller skippered an excursion into the saltwater flats where one client nabbed a trophy-worthy Lemon. Because the angler was so excited about catching this 300-lb. shark, he chose to have it mounted as a double-sided trophy.

Tight lines and trophy trips,
