Key West Fishing Charters Blog

For the week of April 4, 2014, we have had some amazing fishing in Key West. We’ve caught a lot Mackerel and a few Dolphin fish, and have had successful fishing trips each time we’ve gone out onto open waters. A lot of our guests have been coming from the Northern States, and some from as far as Europe, and we’ve enjoyed all of their catches!

Fishing in Key West has been incredible this week, even if it has been a little windy. The wind must have brought some great fishing in, because it’s almost been like the fish are jumping into the Coolcast boat. This week’s “Catch of the Week” for our Key West Top Guide charters is John and Carol. They were visiting over the weekend from Palm Beach County, and booked a charter with Coolcast, and caught an Amberjack.

This week, of March 21, has been prime time for some fishing action in Key West. We’ve had some luck in the Tarpon area, as well as some Mahi-Mahi, and have seen a few sightings of catches of Marlins. Our catch of the week goes to the Mackerel.

This beautiful fish, the tarpon, is our catch of the week for March 3, 2014. This particular Tarpon was estimated to weigh somewhere between 40 and 50 pounds, and took the help of the crew to help reel into the boat.

Since the winds have been blowing from the north lately, our charter captains have been leading charters to the Atlantic side of Key West. We've seen some success slow trolling with live bait along the edge of the reef. Today, we caught three Kingfish, ranging from twenty to forty-seven pounds using live Blue Runners and live Goggle Eyes.
