Key West Fishing Reports

Fishing Report - March 26th 2010

This is the best time of year to visit Key West; the unbelievable spring temperatures provide the perfect atmosphere for an exciting fishing charter. This weather is ideal for an array of fishing charters from the docks in Key West, including Tarpon angling in Key West Harbor, light tackle action at a reef or wreck, off shore fishing at the color change, and Blackfin angling on the gulf side.

The skipper of our charter vessel Coolwater, Tony Miller, has been guiding a series of bountiful shark fishing charters lately. His parties have been catching Nurse Sharks and Lemon Sharks tipping the scales at close to three hundred pounds.

Our own Bill Wallace, skipper of the Outcast, recently led a charter that caught their limit of Yellowtail Snapper at a wreck. One fortunate angler also snagged an eighty-two pound Amberjack on a live Blue Runner.

Today, I went out on the Coolcast to guide some clients on a Tarpon angling trip. The Tarpon have really become active in the Harbor as the weather has warmed up. Permit has also begun to bite. We caught three Tarpon tipping the scales from seventy to one hundred and twenty pounds.

If you are interested in deep sea fishing, Sailfish make their run past Key West every April.

Tight lines and trophy trips,

Capt. Chris Garcia
