Key West Fishing Reports

Fishing Report - February 9th 2010

Since the winds were blowing from the east on Sunday and Monday, our charter captains have been heading to the south of Key West to the Atlantic side for some Deep Sea fishing in one hundred and twenty to one hundred and eighty feet of water. Sailfish have been running well this winter and Sunday and Monday were no different. Our captains were three for four for Sailfish in a day and a half. We've also seen some other pelagics, such as Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin Fish. We've seen some success utilizing live Threadfin Herring using kite and drift fishing techniques.

Our own Captain Bill Wallace of the Outcast reports some success reef fishing for Mutton Snapper and Black Grouper. One of his clients caught and released a live 25-lb. Black Grouper.

The winds changed on Tuesday, causing our charter captains to switch their attention from the Atlantic side in the south to the Gulf of Mexico side to fish for Cobia and King Mackerel. Our own Capt. Tony of the Coolwater guided his anglers to catch a 20 and 26-lb. Cobia as well as a 42-lb. Kingfish using live bait off a 40-ft ledge.

The winds will shift again for some favorable Atlantic side fishing this week. Come down to the keys and join us as we chase Sailfish, Wahoo, Blackfin Tuna, and Mahi Mahi.

Tight lines and trophy trips,

Captain Damon Santelli
